25 сент 1957 г. - Little Rock Nine's First Day of School Classes

Описание:

Little Nine Rock was a group of African American students who questioned segregation at the Little Rocks' Public Schools. These nine students were enrolled at Little Rock High School in the summer of 1957 and were supported by the by the U.S Supreme Court's decision in the brown v. Board of Education (1954). On September 4, 1957, the second day of classes at Central High, Little Rock Nine arrived at the school accompanied by an interracial group of ministers. Little Rock Nine had been warned by the Little Rock board of education not to attend on the first day of classes. However, Governor Orval Faubus called in the Arkansas National Guard to block the black students’ entry into the high school and there were riots outside the school with over 1000 people standing outside protesting. Over the next 18 days, the students stayed home. On the 23rd of September, they returned secretly, but were discovered and attacked. Finally, on the 25h of September, they were escorted into the school by U.S. soldiers.

Little Rock Nine drew international attention to racism and civil rights in the United States.
Ernest Green, one of the students in the Little Rock Nine, was the first African-American to graduate from Little Rock Central High School.
