End of Hanoverian Line; William IV having no heirs, the British throne passed it in 1837 to Victoria a granddaughter of George III. Though the British family continued in direct descent from George I, it has dropped the Hanoverian designation and is now known as the House of Windsor. From 1877 - 1947 the British rulers also bore the additional tile of Emperor/Empress of India
