Heian Period
During this period, a new capital was established in
(Heian-kyo) Kyoto. Peace reined for 400 years until
the Fujiwara Family dominated the royal family by
ensuring their daughters married the Heirs
and ruled their children. Japanese culture thrived
from literature to paintings. The Fujiwara clan was
finally challenged by the Minamoto and Taira clans.
This period ended with the Genpei War. It was
won by the Minamoto clan. Yoritomo (leader of
Minamoto) established the Kamakura Shogunate. (1 jan 794 ano – 1 jan 1185 ano)
