Ashikaga Period
The Ashikaga Shogunate is also known as the
Muromachi Shogunate because the shoguns
palace was in the Muromachi district of Kyoto.
There was a great development of culture and
the arts in the first hundred years of the period.
Zen Buddhism became very popular in this period.
The powerful Daimyo overthrew different regions
with little interference from the shogun. The Daimyo
started to fight among themselves to find the most
powerful, but this started a century long civil war
called (12 mar 1336 ano – 30 dez 1603 ano)
