-The Romantics criticised on emotion and individualism as well as glorification of all the past and nature, preferring the medieval rather than the classical. It was partly a reaction to the Industrial Revolution.
The huge focus under this period was on science, reasoning, and technology, that the Enlightenment had brought. During the Romantic Period, writers started to focus more on feelings, imaginations and take inspiration from the divine nature. Everything could be expressed in litterature, music, painting, drama, or in other art.
-Edgar Allan Poe had master of suspense, he invented the detective fiction, started as literary critic, he had great reputation. Edgar was first American self-employed author.
His famous collection was Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesque. He married his 13-year-old cousin secretly and was in love with her. She died at the age of 20 and he died at the age of 40 after staying in the hospital, none knew what killed him, as people thought he was mentally insane and took drugs.
-Mary Shelley was born 30 August 1797 and died 1 February 1851. she was an English novelist, short story writer, dramatist, essayist, biographer, and travel writer. Best known for her Gothic novel Frankenstein.
