The Cold War was time where western countries supported democracy and CAPITALISM while eastern countries were communist. These opposing ideologies originated from the U.S.A. and the U.S.S.R. and caused them to create SPHERES OF INFLUENCE in an effort to compete. The conflict was prevalent as the superpowers each used many different tactics in order to have their ideology be dominant. These tactics were PRESTIGE, PROXY WARS, ESPIONAGE, ARMS RACE, SPACE RACE, DETERRENCE, DETENTE, BRINKMANSHIP, BALANCE OF POWER, PUPPET STATES and SATELLITE STATES.
