First Opium War (8 dez 1839 ano – 16 mar 1842 ano)

Descrição:

The carrot and stick approach was not long lasting, as from the 1820s-60s there is a large surge in piracy. The main reason is a tension between China and Europe caused by the importation of Indian opium being smuggled into China on British ships.

In 1841 Hing Kong is taken over by the British and in 1843 Canton is the center of the opium trade. The British defeated the Chinese army.
