Before the year of 208 BC, the Vietnamese were a pre-civilization people. In the 208 BC, a Chinese General invaded and named himself the king of Nom Viet, what would later become Vietnam. 100 years after the General took the region of Vietnam, the Chinese Emperor invaded and took over the land. Under a 1000 years of Chinese rule, the Vietnamese were give all the required traits of being a civilization.
In the year 939, Vietnam finally gains it's independence after many attempted rebellions over the 1000 years of rule. Despite the great benefits, the Chinese culture was forced upon them and they were both heavily taxed and had no say in how Vietnam was handled. Just after, Vietnam begins to expand and gain more territory until they were colonized by the French in the 1800s.
