Bloodiest battle of the war taking only 3 days yet leading to 50,000 deaths. Death was on the literal doorsteps of the everyday citizens as they received news of all their loved ones being killed in this battle. Even then the people knew that the day would be recorded in history books, making the soldiers who died there immortal, in a figurative sense.
