5. One major cause
The boycott began not long after the arrest of Rosa Parks for refusing to give up her seat to a white passenger on the bus. While Parks was not the first to do so, her actions directly lead to the beginning of this particular boycott.

6. One major effect
On June 5th, 1956, the District Court ruled that bus segregation was unconstitutional in Browder v. Gayle. On Nov. 13th, 1956, the Supreme Court upheld the District Court decision and orders to desegregate buses in Alabama and Montgomery were given.
