The Abbasid dynasty was a dynasty of the Muslim empire. It overthrew the previous Umayyad caliphate in 750 C.E and reigned til 1258 C.E when they were destroyed by Mongol invasions. During this time the capital was moved to Baghdad. The Abbasid government was heavily influenced by the Persians. Their rule extended from most of the southern Mediterranean to the Arabian sea.
