Whiskey Rebellion (1 jan 1791 ano – 1 jan 1794 ano)
Descrição:
When Washington became president, Hamilton suggested a whiskey tax, which Washington was opposed to, but after speaking to several government officials who supported the tax, he passed the bill. This immediately angered the common people, who were stuck paying nine cents per gallon, and especially farmers who did not have the money to pay the tax. People refused to pay the tax and tax collectors were met with violence, and many attacks were made. The act was repealed after officials realized that it would be impossible to collect the tax.
