The Great Puritan Migration (9 fev 1630 ano – 4 set 1642 ano)

Descrição:

As England's religious climate seemed to get worse, Non-Separatists chose America where they could practice their religion freely. This lead to a large migration of 13,000-21,000 emigrants into the Mass. Bay Colony.

Causes: At the time church and state were joined together in England, this meant any separation would be seen as treason. The puritans saw the church as one that had many similarities to that of the Catholic Church. To make matters worse King Charles I married a Catholic which made the puritan's persecution even worse.

Social Impact: Fleeing religious persecution the puritans lead by John Winthrop would settle in Mass. Bay where they could practice religion freely. This mass migration really solidified the Americas as a place of religious tolerance, this trend continued all throughout the history of America.
