With the end of the Hundred Years War many cities in Europe grew rapidly and wealth began to accumulate again. With this wealth people started to become patrons of the arts and the renaissance began to take hold in northern Europe as well. The war had been keeping England and France economically unstable for a century which consequently kept them from moving forward. With the war coming to an end they were finally able to focus more on the development of their cities and culture.
