Nation-wide revolt in Hungary against the marxist-leninist government and its Soviet-imposed policies. The Hungarian revolt was the first major threat to Soviet control. The revolt successfully collapsed the Hungarian government, but it was soon crushed by Soviet forces when they invaded to stop the revolt.
