Historical Significance:Sherman's March to the Sea is the name given to the military Savannah Campaign in the American Civil War. This was a march of troops through Georgia that lasted from November 15 to December 21, 1864. It was lead by Maj. Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman of the Union Army.
Number of deaths:It is estimated that during the six-week March to the Sea fewer than 3,000 casualties resulted.
