FUN FACTS!
Union casualties were over 3000, though Confederate casualties nearly tripled that.
-Did you know, the battle of Atlanta was also called the Battle of Decatur?
-The Union conquered Atlanta in hopes of gaining passage to the railroads and taking Confederates at other outposts by surprise. It worked.
-Originally, the Union was led by General McPherson, who was shot and killed almost immediately at the beginning of the battle. Even though hope looked grim from the start, General Sherman was able to take over and lead the remainders of his forces to victory.
