Descrição:

The Council was prompted by the Protestant Reformation which displayed the corruption within the Catholic Church. It was initiated by Pope Paul III in an attempt to establish power boundaries within the Church. It is the epitome of the Catholic Counter-Reformation. The Council failed in its efforts as it was not able to reach a compromise, not only with the Protestant church but also because of dissension within the council.
