Chapter 21 mentions a date (Feb 22 or 23rd) but no year. Eusebius dates this letter to 167 AD, but his reliability in this instance is questionable.

Recent evidence about proconsulship of Statius Quadratus has led the date to be placed around 156 AD. This date also works in favour with the knowledge that Polycarp was visited by Bishop Anicetus of Rome not long before his arrest, and he became bishop no earlier than 154 AD.
