The English Civil War saw the transition in England between an absolute monarch to a monarch all but controlled by parliament. This war was bloody, but in the end England came out with a revolutionary political system and some much needed stability. This is one of the first examples from this era where the king had his power limited to such a degree that the parliament choose whether of not he gets to be king at all.
