1517-1525The appearance of a comet believe to signify a doom in 1517 then in 1519, 4th March, the landing of Hernan Cortes on the Yucatan peninsula. In 1519, Crotes arrives in Tenochtitlan. Cortes allies with Tlaxcala, enemies of the Aztec, assault on the empire begins. Later on July, the Spanish were driven back which caused them to suffer a heavy loss (La Noche Triste). In 1520, the tenth king of Tenochtitlan came into power, the rule of Cuitahuac however in this year, he dies from the first smallpox epidemic to hit the empire. In 1521, 13 Aug, the fall of Tenochtitlan, Cuauhetemoc surrenders to cortes which caused the destruction of the city. IN 1522, the city was rebuilt by the Spanish and by 1525, Cuauhetemoc is hung by the spaniards.
