He was a mathematician and astronomer during the Renaissance era who worked with the idea of the heliocentric theory but didn't create the theory. the importance was his theory, the Heliocentric theory describes the solar system as the earth revolving around the sun instead of the more common belief that the sun revolved around the earth.
