Joey was playing in an enclosed back porch that they used as a playroom. He was sitting in front of the window doing his toddler thing, pushing around toys. The paint on the window sill was chipping away and he ended up eating some of the paint chips, which had lead in them.
His mom found him eating the chips and rushed him to the hospital to be tested for lead poisoning. He ended up getting six time the recommended amount of lead. The biggest fear was brain damage. Joey luckily only got a learning disability, it could have been much worse.
He had a hard time in school with things like simple reading and math. He had qualified for the special education program in his school. In third grade he realised that other kids would make fun of the special education kids
