the epic of gilgamesh poems were poems based on historical King Gilgamesh, who ruled Sumerian Uruk which is modan day Iraq. It was the oldest written story, period, anywhere, known to exist. The oldest exist versions of this poem date to 2000 BC in Sumerian cuneiform.
