From Rutherford's gold foil experiment, he was able to establish several principles of the atom. For example, when he saw that light would travel through the atom, he could find that not only was there space between atoms, yet also space within the atom and at the center is the nucleus. Rutherford having gotten the most righ with his conclusions in that he believed that atoms were naturally neutral charged and electrons orbited said atom.
