Protestant Reformation (1 jan 1500 ano – 1 jan 1600 ano)
Descrição:
Family: Protestants did not believe in celibacy, and they placed family at the venture of human life, extolling the love between a wife and a husband Protestants still believed that men were supposed to be the rulers of the house, and that women were supposed to be obedient and bear children because that was part of the "divine plan."
Education: Protestant schools were aimed at a much wider audience than just a select few of the elite (relates back to how Protestants encouraged laymen to read and interpret the Bible for themselves without the help of clergy - translations into the vernacular). Luther advocated that all children should have access to education provided by the state.
Religion: Reformation led to the elimination of customary practices like the sale of indulgences, veneration of saints, pilgrimages, monasticism, clerical celibacy, and religious holidays. Catholic traditions were rejected (with the exception of the LS and baptism), and a new worship service was constituted, w/sermons, Bible reading, and sometimes music.
Culture: Some radical reformers tried to eliminate all forms of entertainment, such as the Puritans and the Dutch Calvinists, but they ultimately failed due to the secular tradition of entertainment already present in countries.
