A barbed wire and concrete wall was built by the Communist government of the German Democratic Republic between East and West Berlin. They built this wall to keep Western “fascists” from getting into the East Germany. Families were being seperated and people that worked in the east lost their jobs in the west because they couldn't get there. It became known as the death strip because anyone that was seen trying to cross to the other side was shot.
