Tiananmen Square protests (15 abr 1989 ano – 4 jun 1989 ano)

Descrição:

A series of pro-democracy protests took place throughout China, mainly concentrated in Beijing, from April to June of 1989. The protests had origins in nationwide unrest about the political situation, with many citizens still scarred from the events of the Cultural Revolution and dissatisfied with the government’s attitude. The demonstrations climaxed on June 3rd-4th, when the government adopted martial law and used tanks, tear gas and firearms to clear out the protestors surrounding Tiananmen Square. The death toll is still yet to be confirmed, with statistics ranging from 241, as announced by the Chinese government, and numbers in the tens of of thousands from hospitals and foreign reporters present at the scene.
