On May 7th, 1784, T.J. is appointed as an ambassador to France to aid fellow ambassadors Benjamin Franklin and John Adams in the negotiation of the Treaty of Amity and Commerce. Before traveling to France to meet up with his compatriots, he, Patsy (his daughter), and a couple of his servants toured England from July 23rd--31st. On August 6th, they continue on to France.
On March 10th, 1785, T.J. is appointed as chief minister to France, and later on September 10th of the same year T.J. successfully negotiates the Treaty of Amity and Commerce with Prussian Prime Minister Count Karl-Wilhelm Finck Von Finkenstein.
On October 12th, Congress re-elects T.J. for a three-year term as foreign minister to France
