After being appointed to the Virginia House of Delegates, T.J. initiates a massive reform project of Virginian law in an attempt to transform the state into an example of the ideal republican society. The House assigns him to a committee to review the existing Virginian law, and of the five men who were on the committee the primary responsibility was given to its three lawyers T.J., George Wythe (his former law mentor), and Edmund Pendleton.
From May 20th, 1777 to October 30th, 1777, T.J. leaves the House of Delegates to care for Martha again.
