The ottoman empire led by Sultan Mehmed II attacked Constantinople on April 9 1453. This battle was against the weakened Byzantine Army. Sultan Mehmeds army surrounded the city by land and sea closing in the byzantine army, they also used huge cannons to break walls surrounding the city. Due to the Byzantine Army already being weak poor and being around other Turkish tribes it was easy for the army to attack. The reason sultan Mehmeds attacked was because this city controlled trade routes between Asia and Europe .
