SG merge with Malaysia (16 set 1963 ano – 21 jul 1971 ano)
Descrição:
Reasons that led up to separation:
Political disagreements:
-Treatment of races: Singapore's government felt that everyone, regardless of race, should be given an equal opportunity to succeed. The government believed that the best way of enabling Malays to gain better employment opportunity was by providing free education. However, the federal government gave special privileges to Malays.
-Composition of political parties: PAP was multiracial and sought to represent the interests of all communities. However, the federal government was formed by the Alliance Party, which consisted of three communal, race-based parties: the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), Malayan Chinese Association (MCA), and Malayan Indian Congress (MIC) which sought to look after the interests of their respective ethnic communities.
Economic disagreements;
-Common market: No common market was established and tariffs were not removed
-Revenue contribution: Singapore's original tax revenue contribution was 40% but the federal government increased it to 60% due to increase in defence spending since Konfrontasi, which SG felt was unfair since its original contribution was enough.
