The Malayan Communist Party worked to influence trade unions and Chinese-medium schools and attacked British-owned rubber plantations and tin mines in Malaya. They also murdered two European rubber planters and carried out numerous assassination attempts and were declared illegal by the British, hence declaring a State of Emergency.
