Description: The Algerian group Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC) allied itself with Al Qaeda near the end of the civil war, and continued to fight in the form of insurgent attacks, with other rebel groups, against the people and governments of the maghreb. It carried out an assassination campaign in the early months of the insurgency. Over 5 years, along with foreign assistance, Algerian police and armed forces were able to declare an end to terrorism, but with the Arab spring and the weakening of public order in neighbouring Libya after the fall of the government, insurgents moved many of their operations and continued terror campaigns primarily outside of Algeria.
