1864: Prescott experiences a large influx of settlers. (1 jan 1864 ano – 1 jan 1864 ano)
Descrição:
After the Arizona Organic Act was passed, Prescott experienced a large influx of settlers and rapid development. The new town was officially named after historian William H. Prescott. During this time, 232 lots of land were sold to new settlers looking to reside in Prescott permanently. The mineral wealth of Prescott made it one of the most important towns in Northern Arizona at the time. With the expansion of development, settler populations, and mining operations, violence against the tribes became more frequent.
"When the White people come, lots of Yavapai get killed. This here is our home. But when the White people come, they take it away from us. They start mining out of these big rocks. We know nothing about these things. White people come here and they get gold, they get silver, they get copper, they get iron, they get lead out of these rocks. If the White people would not kill the Indians, it would be alright. But they kill them, kill them, and I don't know why they do that." - Yavapai Elders: Mike Harrison and John Williams (Oral History of the Yavapai).
