Invention of Cotton Gin (2 jan 1791 ano – 18 dez 1791 ano)
Descrição:
The cotton gin, created by Eli Whitney, was a machine that would greatly benefit cotton production. The machine would be spun with a handle, and by simply putting cotton in the machine while spinning the handle, it would automatically separate the seeds from the cotton. The main goal of the cotton gin was to make slavery more humane at cotton plantations by speeding up the cotton gathering process, but it had the opposite effect. Due to the cotton gin being about 50 times faster than what a normal slave could do in a day, the cotton gin was able to make cotton production skyrocket, which, in turn, would make slavery worse as more slaves than ever before would be working collecting cotton in the South. The cotton gin would further separate the country as the South quickly obtained more slaves to satisfy their greed upon the creation of the cotton gin, with the North, still adamantly against slavery.
