Reconstruction (Lesson 11) (9 abr 1865 ano – 18 maio 1896 ano)

Descrição:

After the American Civil War, “Reconstruction” Focused on rebuilding the south, creating new government positions that included African American Politics. Congress (just in case) divided the South into Military districts (temporarily) to enforce the Fourteenth Amendment. Even so, President Johnson opposed this plan and faced impeachment. Ulysses S. Grant's election in 1868 supported Reconstruction and led to the passage of the Fifteenth Amendment, granting African Americans the right to vote.

Yet as “Reconstruction” ended, Many white Supremacists were still in high government positions. And we're still in an active attempt to reverse years of progress for the African American community. Despite Segregation and racism, African Americans established schools, universities, and businesses. And even continued protesting, such as in the case of Homer Plessy. African Americans ended up fighting for many years for their rights and the liberty to live in a non-segregated and non-racist nation.
