Descrição:

An epidemic that broke out close to the beginning of the Peloponnesian war and originated in sub-Saharan Africa. It is reported to have killed approximately 1/3 of Athens' population, which at the time was 250,000-300,000 people. Symptoms of the disease included headache, shortness of breath, fever, coughing and sneezing, and nausea. There are several theories as to what it would be classified as today, such as measles, typhus, and smallpox.
