2. Constantine the Great - 306-337 AD (1 jan 306 ano – 1 jan 337 ano)

Descrição:

Constantine was a Roman emperor who lived from 274 to 337 AD. He was the first Roman emperor to claim conversion to Christianity. Many doubt the authenticity of his conversion and consider him to be one who tried to use the church and his faith for his own political advantage. He called the first Christian Council of the Christian Church at Nicea in 325 AD because he thought that problems within the growing Church world cause problems within his empire. Constantine stopped the intense persecution of Christians by Piocleton (emperor before him) and caused Christianity to be tolerated in the empire (in the 'Edict of Milan'). He also commissioned 50 Bibles to be written for use in Churches in Constantinople, further preserving the canon. Christianity became the dominant religion the Roman Empire during his reign
