Mount St. Helens is a volcano located in Washington state, USA, that famously erupted on May 18, 1980. The eruption was one of the most powerful in U.S. history, blasting off the top of the mountain, causing massive landslides, and sending ash high into the atmosphere. The eruption destroyed forests, rivers, and homes in the area, killing 57 people. It left a huge crater in the mountain and reshaped the surrounding landscape. Today, Mount St. Helens remains an active volcano and a site for scientific study and outdoor recreation.
