1603 - 1625 James I - James VI of Scotland (21 jan 1603 ano – 23 nov 1625 ano)
Descrição:
After Queen Elizabeth I died, James VI of Scotland (a Stuart and Elizabeth’s cousin) became James I of England. We have to remember that at this time, he had inherited a divided Church of England; Reformer Puritans on the one end, and conservative Anglicans on the other. And, he consistently promoted this idea that the monarchs should answer to God only. He alienated all possible support from both sides, since he promised he’d banish the Puritans from the British Isles, and he decided to put an end to the war with Spain, which angered the Anglicans.
Anglicans: these were not as radicals as the Puritans. They were against Catholic Spain but they still maintained some rituals and beliefs, for example, considering the monarch as the head of the church.
Puritans: these were way more radical, and rejected almost of Catholic practices, including rituals, practices and beliefs.
