The Underground Railroad was a series of networks that contained safe routes, houses, and locations for enslaved people to escape to during the early 1800's. Other individuals such as formerly enslaved people, wealthy people, and abolitionists had helped those who tried to escape use these networks and locate safe areas for them to flee towards. A woman by the name of Harriet Tubman helped organize and was one of the most widely known conductor of this entire organization, helping hundreds in the process of escaping to a new and free life in the northern states of America. This represented a major turning point in the fight for civil rights for all and helped pave the way for the eventual eradication of slavery.
