John Needham (1 fev 1713 ano – 1 fev 1810 ano)
Descrição:
John Needham was a scientist who supported the idea of spontaneous generation. He conducted an experiment to justify abiogenesis. Experiment: he boiled beef broth to kill microbes. After boiling, he transferred the broth into sealed flasks. A few days later, he observed that microbes had appeared in the broth. Needham believed this supported spontaneous generation. However, his experiment had two flaws, he didn’t boil the broth long enough to kill all microorganisms, and he didn't seal the flasks well enough, allowing some microbes to survive/enter and grow. This led to misleading results "proving" abiogenesis.
