Drake traveled to Ireland where he mostly stayed off the records except for his part in the Rathlin Massacre in 1575, a deadly massacre ordered by Queen Elizabeth lead by Lord Essex against the Scottish Sorely Boy McDonald and the other members of his clan. It is estimated that 600 people were killed. (“Gloriana’s Bloody Age”, 2023).
