lawrence Alloway (17 set 1926 ano – 2 jan 1990 ano)

Descrição:

Lawrence Reginald Alloway (London, 17 September 1926 – New York City, 2 January 1990) was an English art critic and curator who worked in the United States from 1961. In the 1950s, he was a leading member of the Independent Group in the UK and in the 1960s was an influential writer and curator in the US.

Art has a basis in the popular culture of its day and takes from it a faith in the power of images. Alloway calls this with the term "pop art".
Alloway said, "The term, originated in England by Alloway, as a description of mass communications." Later on in a footnote to his essay Pop Art the words, he stated the term: 'The Arts and the Mass Media. For Alloway the age of mass media was a positive thing, because the rejection of mass produced arts is not a defence of culture but an attack on it. ‘The new role for the fine arts is to be one of the possible forms or communication in an expanding framework that also includes the mass arts’.
