ANGLO-AMERICAN COLONIAL SLAVERY (1 jan 1619 ano – 31 dez 1775 ano)
Descrição:
Colonial governments enacted a series of laws known as slave codes to regulate the institution of slavery and control the enslaved population. These codes varied by colony but generally restricted the movements, activities, and rights of enslaved individuals while granting broad powers to slave owners.
Enslaved individuals were denied access to education and forbidden from learning to read or write. They were also subject to strict regulations on their movements, requiring passes or permission to travel outside their owner's property.
Children born to enslaved mothers were automatically enslaved, regardless of the father's status. This principle, known as partus sequitur ventrem, ensured the perpetuation of slavery across generations.
