The United States and the Philippine Commonwealth engaged Japan in the Battle of Bataan (Tagalog: Labanan sa Bataan; January 7–April 9, 1942) during World War II. The Japanese invasion of the Philippines during World War II was at its most aggressive throughout the conflict. Following the destruction of the American naval station at Pearl Harbor, the Imperial Japanese Army and Navy invaded Luzon and a number of other islands in the Philippine Archipelago in January 1942.
