Descrição:

The Reconstruction era lasted from 1865 to 1877. Biracial governments were created across the South. These governments expanded the rights and opportunities of formerly enslaved people. However, the South returned to “White man’s rule” when Reconstruction ended. Reconstruction ended as part of the Compromise of 1877. Democrats regained control of the state governments in the South. Once they did, they passed Jim Crow laws.
