From 1845 to 1852 was the Great Potato Famine. It was also known as the Great Famine. It was when ireland suffered from starvation, disease and emigration. The main cause of the event was because of a disease that affected most of the potato crops, which a third of the Irish population was dependent on. The disease was accidently brought to Ireland from North America. Because Ireland had a cool moist weather, the environment let the disease to thrive, causing more and more crops to die.
