While not evident to those living at the time, 23rd century scholars refer to the period between 2008 and 2020 as the Slow Creep Forwards.

While America's leadership turned inwards, the rest of the world kept pushing outwards, trying to forge themselves a space among the middling world powers. While America's cold war rival of Russia had never totally bounced back from it's territorial and financial losses, other nations gradually progressed further and further towards an equal playing field.

China would become the first nation to land on the moon since the cold war's space race when their Chang-e lander touched down on the Lunar Surface in 2013, followed behind a decade later by India in 2023. Following Indias touchdown other nations caught up in quick succession in the mid 2020's as Israel, then
the United Arab Emirates, Brazil, South Africa, and then Australia all eventually followed suit with lunar rover programs. For more information, read the corresponding information in the space history section.
